Photo: Catching the Express to the Fair

Deep fried candy bars, thrill rides assembled by questionable characters, pig races, concerts and “The Smallest Woman in the World.” Sound like fun? Good news – the State Fair will be here in just over 2 weeks!

In case you’re wondering the Wolfpack and the ‘Canes will be playing out-of-town for two weeks to avoid State Fair / football / hockey mega-traffic. My hat goes off to the rocket scientist who managed to organize that. I seem to recall that it took me over two hours to get home (5 miles away) last year. In fact, I can’t remember the last time I was able to get in and out of the fair without having to deal with a ridiculous amount of traffic, a problem these 3 probably could not have imagined as they donned their best threads and hopped on the “express to Raleigh” in 1914 to enjoy the festivities.

Wow…neither the canes nor state is playing at home during the fair? A miracle. In 12 years in Raleigh I don’t think I’ve seen that!!
We still sort of have an “express” to the fair, although it’s not a streetcar. I usually take that express bus from downtown. Saves a lot of headaches. And I think I know someone who actually bicycled there last year…smart move on their part, they passed all the cars!

Can’t imagine trying to enjoy the fair in all that get-up, but the picture is great.

You should do a post about Share Your Raleigh. It’s a neat chance to use pictures and other stuff to say what Raleigh means to you.

I came across the share your Raleigh site a few days ago, but couldn’t quite decide what I thought. On the one hand it seems like a fun idea, but I wonder how well it will do given it’s current format. Seems to be a little primitive in terms of a social site. But… we are asking people to send in their photos via email, so perhaps we’re guilty of the same.
